Her Honour Judge Anuja Dhir KCHer Honour Judge Anuja Dhir KC was called to the Bar in 1989 by Gray’s Inn and was awarded a Gray’s Inn scholarship. Anuja was elected a Master of the Bench in 2009 and took silk in 2010. Anuja has invested her time to support various aspects of the Inn’s Education programme including delivering advocacy training. She has also previously held positions as the Inn’s Master of Debates, Master of Students and Masters of Outreach.

Anuja practised as a barrister for 23 years mainly in crime, and from 2007 as a special advocate in national security cases. She was the first non-white judge to be appointed to the Old Bailey in 2017.

    Her Honour Judge Anuja Dhir KC was born and educated in Scotland. Anuja took silk and was appointed Recorder in 2010 before being promoted as a Circuit judge in 2012. In 2015 she was appointed as a Tutor judge for the Judicial College. She was then appointed as a judge at the Old Bailey in 2017 and in 2018 Anuja was authorised to sit in the Court of Appeal Criminal Division. She was appointed to the JAC (Judicial Appointments Commission) in 2018 as a judicial member and reappointed in 2021.

    Anuja was previously a member of various Bar Council Committees including the Equality Committee, the Professional Conduct Committee and Law Reform Committee.

    She has been working within advocacy training in the UK and abroad for over 20 years. Anuja is one of the governors of the City of London Junior School.
