HHJ Grace Amakye
HHJ Grace Amakye was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn in 1983 and practiced as a Criminal Barrister from 1985 to 2015. She has also worked internationally, co-defending a former Rwandan government minister on charges of genocide and crimes against humanity at the UN International Criminal Court for Rwanda.
In 1999 Grace was appointed as an Assistant Recorder, the first black African female to be appointed to Judicial Office in the criminal judicial system in the United Kingdom. She became a Recorder in 2000 and was appointed a Circuit Judge in 2015. She currently sits at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
Master Sally Penni
Master Sally Penni called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn in 2000 and elected as Master of the Bench in 2000. Sally was awarded an MBE by her Majesty the Queen and is currently practicing from Manchester and London at Kenworthys chambers and a door tenant at 4BB.
Sally is the author of over 16 books and a regular contributor to several legal publications. She is the founder of the professional development organisation Women in the Law UK, empowering the next generation through webinars, conferences and research. She is also the host of two successful legal podcasts.
She sits on the editorial board of legal women magazine, is a trustee of access to justice foundation charity, on the board of the advocates gateway TAG, and a Trustee of the Royal Exchange Theatre.
Master Jason Pitter
Master Jason Pitter was called to the Bar at Gray’s Inn in 1994, before developing his practice in complex and serious criminal litigation as well as professional misconduct and regulatory law. He was elected as Master of the Bench in 2018.
Jason was appointed as Leader of the North Eastern Circuit in 2022. In this appointment, he became the first Black Leader of the UK Legal Circuits.
