This year’s annual lecture will be on ‘The Rule of Law? Does it really matter to commercial lawyers?’.

Lady Justice Andrews will give a speech entitled ‘Maintaining the Rule of Law in the Digital Age’

We are always reading in the press about the Rule of Law, access to justice and human rights. Commercial lawyers might undertake pro bono work and thereby facilitate access to justice; and occasionally deal with Article 6 or Article 8 of the ECHR.  But the Rule of Law – where does that fit in?

With this question in mind, we are delighted to be hosting an evening with the City of London Law Society and The Law Society of England and Wales to explore Rule of Law issues and discuss why the Rule of Law is relevant to commercial lawyers, and their careers.

The event, which is free of charge, is primarily for members of the legal profession in the earlier stages of their career, to showcase – as the future leaders of our profession – why the Rule of Law really matters in these challenging times.

We are pleased to have secured two senior members of the judiciary, Lady Justice Andrews, and Sir Stephen Irwin, as well as Solicitor-General Michael Tomlinson KC MP as speakers at the event. We will also have a panel, on which the speakers will be joined by The Law Society’s Chief Executive, Ian Jeffery, and which will be moderated by Colin Passmore, Chair of the City of London Law Society.

This is an important opportunity to really understand the Rule of Law and network with senior judges, a senior Law Officer as well as senior executives and the City of London Law Society and The Law Society.
